Global trekking regions are at risk. Help us make that change.
What does the IEI stand for?
What is Ecotrekking?
A regenerative way to see the world. Ecotrekking is a proactive and reflective approach to natural exploration that considers an individual’s impact on their surroundings and seeks to not only reduce harm but contribute to the environments they inhabit and discover.
Who are we?
We are a network of volunteer trekkers and trekking partners passionate about preserving the natural world for future generations to explore. We have members across the globe promoting ecotrekking principles while learning from local knowledge to share back with us.
Why do we care?
An ever-more interconnected world has allowed more people to see more of the world’s natural wonders than ever before. But thoughtless travel continues to harm physical, social, and cultural environments threatening the security of these very destinations.
What is our mission?
To develop a culture of environmentally proactive trekking across the globe. This involves: making education accessible through demystifying climate reports and translating research, directing resources to communities in need, and highlighting harmful operations.
Where are we?
Our executive team operate out of Edinburgh, Scotland, where we began in 2021. But as our name indicated we have ties established around the world. There are IEI members near you! Join our network today through the contact tab and help us grow our roots system today.
Why do we trek?
Our members trek to connect with themselves and the natural world, to share ideas and grow from experiences with others and the unknown. The IEI is an extension of that belief: we want to provide a framework to allow these dialogues to happen over greater distances.
